An elegant pine bowed over slightly and said, “not long after you had left, a group of hunters spent the night here. They were looking for you. They said a bird had dropped a seed from the air and that they had carried it here and planted it in this clearing long, long ago. They called you one tree among many. They seemed disappointed not to have found you and thought that perhaps they had come to the wrong place. It was then we realised how special you were.”
One Tree gave a little sniffle and shed a leaf. “We are so happy to be back, aren’t we, Owl”. Owl caught the leaf and tucked it back onto one of One Tree’s branches.
“We really are very happy to be back. Now unless anyone has a hollow trunk I can make into my home, I need to build a nest. And,” added Owl, “I am sure One Tree has one or two new stories to tell!”
A ripple of excitement spread though the forest. One Tree gave its branches a little shake and began, “A long way away from here, far across the ocean, there was once a land that had no forests or trees…
